November 1 | Karnataka Formation Day | Unity in Language, Culture, and Heritage
Karnataka Rajyotsava 2025, also known as Kannada Rajyotsava or Karnataka Formation Day, will be celebrated with immense joy and pride on November 1, 2025. This day commemorates the unification of all Kannada-speaking regions to form the present-day state of Karnataka. It is a day that celebrates Karnataka’s rich language, art, music, literature, and cultural heritage.
History of Karnataka Rajyotsava
On November 1, 1956, under the States Reorganisation Act, all Kannada-speaking areas scattered under different states like Bombay Presidency, Madras Presidency, Hyderabad State, and Mysore State were merged to form a single entity. Initially called Mysore State, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973.
This unification was the dream of several visionary leaders such as Aluru Venkata Rao, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, and Kuvempu, who believed in the power of language to unite people. Their collective efforts gave Kannadigas a common identity, inspiring generations to preserve the Kannada language and culture.
